Bob Bashara Guilty On All Counts
After almost three days of deliberation, after the close of trial, jurors in the Bashara case returned a Guilty verdict on all counts.
Bashara, 57, of Grosse Pointe Park, was charged with five offenses: first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder, witness intimidation and obstruction of justice.
The matter was heard at the Wayne County Circuit Court. Judge Evans presided over the matter. Nine men and three women comprised the jury. Over 70 witnesses were called over the course of nine weeks.
The “handyman”, Gentz plead guilty to killing Bob’s wife of 26 years, Jane Bashara. Jane Bashara’s body was found in her Mercedes on Jan. 25, 2012, in a Detroit alley. Evidence indicated that Jane was beaten and chocked.
Then Bob tried to have Gentz killed in jail. Bashara plead guilty to this offense and was already sentenced to 20 years.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office claimed Bashara hired a handyman to kill his wife in order to pursue a S&M sex lifestyle with a woman he was having an affair with. The defense denied that this was true, and he maintained his innocence. Defense argued that he was happily married and would never want his wife dead.
Bashara will be sentenced on the new offense January 15th. He faces life in prison.
