Domestic Assault In Michigan
Our client’s relationship with his wife had been crumbling for years. Finally, it came to a head and the two separated. Our client went to his estranged wife’s home to exchange the kids in Detroit. While he was there an argument ensued and the police were called. When the police arrived his wife claimed that he had slapped her and on a previous occasion he punched her in the face, injuring her, and making her require medical attention. He was charged with two counts of domestic assault. These charges were heard at the 36th District Court in Detroit.
To make matters worse, prior to hiring our office, the client went to the West Bloomfield Police Department and reported a fight he had with his wife. The West Bloomfield Police later interviewed the wife who convinced them that she was attacked by her husband and was only defending herself. Our client was then charged with a third domestic assault charge in the 48th District Court in West Bloomfield.
It should be noted that in any situaiton like this we recommend consulting with a lawyer before speaking with police. Our client probably could have avoided at least one nightmare had he spoken to us before going to the West Bloomfield Police.
Domestic Violence Lawyer
After exposing weaknesses in the prosecutor’s cases, domestic violence lawyer, Aaron J. Boria, was able to get the prosecutors to offer deals that would not result in a domestic violence conviction. In fact, the deals that Boria obtained would mean that our client would ultimately not have any criminal conviction at all. Thats right, three domestic violence charges reduced to zero convictions.
Our client works for the federal government and his position requires that he carry a firearm. A domestic violence conviction means that you are barred by federal law from carrying a gun. Since not one domestic violence charge was entered into a public record he didn’t permanently lose his ability to carry a firearm.
