Prior to 1999 the Michigan Secretary of State would stack suspension on top of each other rather then starting the suspension clock over as they do today. For example, today a third DUI in 10 years results in a 5-year suspension. Another driving offense would result in the 5-year clock starting over. Prior to 1999 another offense would add an additional 5 years, so a 10 year suspension.
